Why Retrain on HB300?

5/21/2018

So HIPAA and House Bill 300 have teeth, and Texas practitioners and office managers are aware. Awareness begs the question: Why should practice team members be retrained this summer on patient privacy? We’ll give you three good reasons.
Picture
First, people change.  Most likely, you’ve had staff turnover in the years since HB300 became law in Texas. Even if turnover has been minimal, it’s important to get team members on the same page. Smart Training’s HB300 2018 training module – which debuts May 28 – is designed to do just that...
Second, times change.  When HB300 became law in 2012, patient privacy wasn’t a big concern for most offices. Many practitioners told us, “We don’t pay much attention to all that HIPAA stuff.” Nowadays, however, being a HIPAA scofflaw can have disastrous consequences for practitioners and team members alike.

Third, threats change.  When HB300 became law, ransomware was unheard of; the biggest threats to patient privacy were hackers trying to steal practice data. Today, a majority of data breaches caused internally by staff members who are unaware of HIPAA requirements and malware safeguards.

Smart Training’s HB300 2018 module contains essential HIPAA information, and guidelines as well as important data breach avoidance safeguards. Team members who complete the module will have a heightened awareness of data breaches and strategies for avoiding them.

People change, times change and threats change. But your office’s patient privacy efforts are never complete. Is your team ready to face HIPAA and HB300 head-on?
